Abstract

In Canada, the interest in recycled manure solids (RMS) has increased. However, moisture content of RMS can be problematic as it is associated with higher mastitis incidence. In a research dairy farm, separated, composted, and used RMS were sampled each season during one year. Any mastitis event during this period was recorded. All RMS samples were analyzed for dry matter content. Results indicated that warm temperatures increased RMS dry matter, while decreasing mastitis episodes.
